Classical concerts in concert halls with breathtaking acoustics, open-air concerts in natural surroundings on the banks of the Danube, contemporary music by local and international stars or the traditional music of Austrian brass band ensembles – Linz's concert culture is broad, varied and of an excellent standard.

One of the most important concert halls in Linz is the Brucknerhaus by the Danube, where innumerable concerts are given every year. Not only the Brucknerhaus is named after the composer Anton Bruckner, but also the Anton Bruckner Private University, an educational centre for music, theatre and dance.

Linz is home to renowned orchestras, such as the Bruckner Orchester Linz, the Landestheater Linz Opera Orchestra and the philharmonic orchestra of the province. Through their outstanding musicians and high-quality interpretations, Linz's orchestras are famous far beyond Austria's borders.

The Posthof at Linz's harbour is one of the largest venues for contemporary culture in Europe. Local bands and international music stars present contemporary music and new items from young talent here.

A highlight in the summer months is the open-air concerts on the banks of the Danube. In the Musikpavillon in Linz's Donaupark, weekly musical evenings with free admission are organised. On Thursdays, various brass brands from Linz perform, and every Friday and Saturday, the programme offers a varied mixture of folk, pop, blues and song. On Sundays, jazz is performed.

In addition to its varied concert programmes, Linz has also established a festival scene in recent years. The forerunners are Festival 4020, which presents music from various regions of Europe, and the LinzFest, which transforms the Donaupark into a large stage for several days.
